An IETP is an interactive electronic version of a technical document. It contains all the information a technician needs to perform his or her function: procedures, parts information and theory information. The information can be loaded onto a lightweight, portable computer that the technician can use where needed. There are currently a range of types of IETP. The AECMA 1000D Classes of IETM 3 to 5 correspond to IETP-Linear (IETP-L), IETP-Database (IETP-D) and IETP- Integrated (IETP- I).

  • IETP-L: This is a linear IETP that takes the source data from the CSDB and builds a linear document. It is desirable, but not required, to include the use of interaction attributes for facilitated interactive presentation.
  • IETP-D: The IETP-D has its basis in a database which is queried, thus allowing access to the underlying Data Modules. The data can be presented through a standard linear publication construct or as query, e.g. "give me all Data modules pertaining to the engine system".
  • IETP-I: The IETP-I takes the Database concept further and allows queries to and from external applications, the most common scenario is when carrying out a repair, a message is sent to the stores computer relaying the spares usage. The stores computer would then use this as a trigger to order stock.
  • IETP-H: This IETP uses HTML as an output mechanism. Web Delivery will allow HTML files converted from AECMA SGML to be transferred across an Intranet environment.
  • IETP-X: A publication compiled from XML or SGML data modules.
